Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions - Hard-Of-Hearing Dogs

"Mulan" (a giant Harlequin Great Dane puppy) and Isabella

Hi Tracy and Burt,

We were so excited to see that you are making a 'Hard of Hearing" page for the Danes.

"Mulan" is an amazing dog.

Because she is hard of hearing, and yes, Tracy, you were right!

She's not deaf, there are definitely some pitches she hears, and her other senses seem to work harder to compensate.

On walks she knows someone is approaching before I can see them.

She'll stop walking or will begin to look around, and sure enough someone is behind us, or across the street or just over the hill.

The other day Tony was petting her when suddenly her ears perked up and she started toward the front door.

The doorbell rang as she got to the door.

She definitetly gives me a great sense of security, she knows whats going on all the time!

"Magnus" and "Mulan"

"Magnus" (aka Rupert/Wolfman) and "George" (our BullMastiff) are also doing really well.

The last thing I wanted to come home with was not one, but two puppies from Gentle Giants.

But "Mulan" and "Magnus" are perfect!

It often seems like they are attached.

"Mulan" will let "Magnus" beat her up.

She is so gentle that in the house she will play with him lying down so that he can get the upper hand (or "paw").

Outside, he's still little enough to run under the furniture so that he can escape when he needs to!

I think "George" has adjusted so well to his new siblings because they ("Mulan" and "Magnus") are able to play with each other.

He's had enough after 10 or 15  minutes, so they'll leave him alone when he's done and play with each other.

They love to play tug of war, or 'keep away' with a ball.

"Magnus" will grab a ball and run with it.

Then, he'll set the ball between his paws near "Mulan," daring her to go for it!

Very entertaining!

"Mulan" Isabella and "Magnus"

It's gotten extremely hot here, over 110 degrees, so they haven't been able to play a lot outside.

But, couch potatoes that they are, they don't seem to mind too much!

My daughter Madeline is constantly asking when we can adopt another dog.

I'm not sure, sounds interesting!

I'll have to keep you posted on that one!

"Mulan" seems to be gaining weight slowly but surely, and "Magnus" seems to be barely growing.

I'm sure I'll wake up one morning to find that he's grown two feet!

Thank you again for the wonderful organization you run!
